How to Make Your Business Cards Feel More Premium

Simple design tweaks, smarter material choices and the little details that make a big impression.

Your business card is often the first physical touchpoint someone has with your brand. It's held, felt and - if you've done it right - kept. So why do so many cards end up in the bin within minutes?

The difference between a forgettable card and one that earns a spot in someone's wallet comes down to a few key decisions.

Choose the right stock. Standard 350gsm is fine. But 400gsm or 450gsm with a soft-touch laminate? That's a card that communicates quality the moment someone picks it up. The tactile experience is part of the brand impression.

Consider a finish. Matte laminate reads as premium and modern. Gloss is vibrant but common. Spot UV - where you gloss-coat only certain elements - is a brilliant way to make your logo or name pop against a matte background without adding much to the cost.

Use white space intentionally. Cluttered cards look cheap. Generous white space signals confidence. Your name, role, one phone number and your website is often enough. Resist the urge to squeeze in every possible contact method.

Typography matters more than you think. A well-spaced, clean typeface on a premium stock says more about your professionalism than any piece of clip art. Stick to one or two typefaces, use hierarchy deliberately, and make sure your font size is never below 7pt for print.

Round corners. It's a small touch, but rounded corners immediately make a card feel more considered and contemporary. They also photograph better - a nice side effect for any social content.

Get the colour right. Make sure you're supplying CMYK files, not RGB. What looks bright on screen can print flat if the conversion isn't handled properly. Ask your printer for a colour proof if you're printing a large run.

Finally, don't underestimate the power of a well-branded card in a world that's gone mostly digital. When you hand someone a beautifully made card, it creates a moment. That moment is worth investing in.
